St Lucia is in the Caribbean and forms part of the Windward Islands, to the east of the Caribbean Sea. Castries, the capital, is built on a large natural harbour which is perfect for cargo ships to load and unload goods. The main export from St Lucia is bananas and the United Kingdom is the main customer. In recent years fair trade co-operatives have sprung up in the Windward Islands. This means local people have more control over their businesses.
