The West African
country of Ghana is much the same size as
the UK, but with only a third of the population.
Its capital, Accra, is on the coast. Rainforests
can be found in the southern coastal areas
but the north is hot and dry. Ghana has
many natural resources and exports gold,
cocoa, timber, tuna, bauxite, aluminium,
manganese ore and diamonds. In spite of
this apparent wealth it is estimated that
nearly a third of the population is below
the poverty line.
