Thomas Taylor worked in the Co-operative grocery and served in the war with the Royal Berkshires, receiving an honourable discharge as a result of the effects of gassing. This collection of documents and photographs relate to this period in his life.

Postcard showing a British soldier leaning against his kitbag smoking a pipe. Behind him are battlefields and other soldiers. In the smoke from his pipe he is imagining himself at home with his daughter.
Black leather diary with gold lettering on it saying ‘CWS Diary 1914’. Inside is a diary for 1917 with handwritten entries on each page. The diary belonged to Tom Taylor.

Beige letter from the Record Office sent to Mr. T. Taylor which accompanied his British War medal. It is dated 20 May 1921.
Letter sent to Thomas Taylor accompanying his War Badge (item TBC/01/051). It is a printed letter with his name and regiment typed in It is dated 28 March 1918.
Brown envelope containing a printed form ‘For use in the case of a soldier sent to his home’, with handwriting in red ink. This allows Pte. T. Taylor of the Berks Regiment to travel to his home. It is dated 28.3.18.
Formal letter from The Adjutant’s Office, Depot, Royal Berkshire Regiment to Mr. T. Taylor advising him of what to do about his pay, pension and looking for work. There is a form attached to the letter with a split pin which has not been filled in.
Certificate printed on cream paper. Shows a black line drawing of Britannia sitting in front of soldiers with their guns raised in salute. It is bordered with a red pattern. There is a space at the bottom which has the name, rank, number and regiment of Thomas Taylor.
