Michael Hallett recalls moving from the Channel Islands to Switzerland, France and then New Zealand with his father’s work. He speaks briefly about his father’s job in the building industry. He learnt both Italian and French but is a bit rusty now. His family traditions were based around Catholicism but father also became interested in Buddhism. His main family tradition is based on cooking traditional and local food and this has been passed down to him from his father discusses the importance of this to him and his family. His special object is a green jade stone set in a pendant from New Zealand and the stone is called Pounamu by the Maori people. Describes the Maori traditions around the stone.
