Interview comparing train travel in the 1960s and today.
Margaret Goy recalls the cafeteria at Bletchley station; she used to take her children there when they travelled to visit family in London. They used trains regularly, on days out and to visit family; prices were very good. Asked about memories of railway staff, she comments that in the past there was always a guard on a train, which she thought a good idea. In the mid-1960s the trains were usually diesel but she recalls going on a trip from London to Hastings on ‘the last steam train’ on that route. ‘I used to like the steam trains; they were lovely, it was a lot slower and it used to take a lot longer’. In her opinion, today’s prices are too high, but she appreciates the increased speed to get to London.
