Interview with Marilyn Tamblin (b.1947).
Marilyn Tamblin came to Bletchley in 1967 from Hampshire and has lived at the same address ever since. She has worked as a book-keeper in about half a dozen jobs in Milton Keynes, but particularly enjoyed her varied work on the Temporary Register of the Milton Keynes Development Corporation (MKDC). She remembers arrivals of incomers from various places, and their different accents.
Her role at MKDC included arranging for the Queen to open the shopping building, the opening of the peace pagoda (she remembers this in detail) and the Homeworld exhibition. Work in the MKDC photographic library involved finding suitable photos to promote the city in the UK, USA and Japan. Talking of the development of the city centre shops, she comments on the effect this has had on Bletchley. She remembers leisure activities in the early days – walking, the swimming pool and Leisure Centre, redways. In her opinion: ‘ Yes, it was exciting really to us, it was a whole new concept, it took all the drudgery out really.’
