Interview with Carol Loxton (b.1936).
Carol Loxton moved to the area in 1972 when her husband took a post at the Open University. After three months living in Olney, they moved to Woughton Park. At that time she was a housewife and worked at Wavendon House School as a supply teacher for a few months. She then became a part-time Arrivals Worker with the Milton Keynes Development Corporation. Carol describes this role on the early estates of Milton Keynes, such as Tinkers Bridge, Fuller Slade and Hodge Lea.
She also worked in Bletchley and describes her involvement with the establishment of the Women’s Refuge, together with Terry Simons and other Arrivals Workers. They formed the organisation Milton Keynes Women’s Aid; she describes the setting up of the Refuge and how it operated. After this she worked on the Interact Project and was involved with the trial of the Young Citizen’s Project.
