Interview with Lee Shostak (b.1946).
Lee Shostak, a New Yorker, came to the UK first as an exchange student in 1970. he ddescribes why he came to Milton Keynes commenting that the particular emphasis of MK on social development made it an ‘exceptional, almost unique opportunity’. He describes his interview with Jock Campbell in 1972; initially he worked for Milton keynes Development Corporation on the first household survey ‘Four Years On’. He describes his later career moves; in particular, he mentions the shopping building, railway station, Central Business Exchange, redways and landscaping. He also talks of his work after he left MK. He had little time to write his history. He says: ‘When the history of landscape architecture in the twentieth century is written, Milton Keynes will be one of the successes in Europe, there is no doubt about that.’
