Interview with Pearl Oliver (b.1947).
Pearl Oliver moved to Newport Pagnell, Bucks with her husband and family in 1975, because of her husband’s job. She describes why they chose Newport Pagnell and talks of the good facilities there: schools, shops, cinema.
Settling in was initially difficult because she was used to life on a farm, not a housing estate, but her children had plenty to do and she made friends with the neighbours. She worked at the newsagents and enjoyed talking to all the customers; she reminisces about local events. Her leisure activities include walking, embroidery and an allotment. As a country person, she does not like Milton Keynes, but in her opinion it is better than a lot of cities, because of the green space and trees.
