Interview with Mr & Mrs Hewett (b. 1946).
Mr & Mrs Hewett moved to Milton Keynes in 1997, when he took a job in the IT industry here. They bought a house in Milton Keynes Village, where some land was just being released for development. They found it easy to settle in, MK Village residents put notices through doors about events, Mr Hewett took on an allotment, and they got involved with the Archive Trust. Talking of MK, Mrs Hewett contrasts the the spaciousness and the landscaping in MK with London. But she was disappointed with the later building of higher density houses in MK Village.
Both comment on the problems of vandalism to underpasses and are also concerned that some residents do not take care of their housing. Both are happy living in MK, where they are within easy reach of all the amenities and: ‘it’s got a village feel about it… we’re involved, Carol’s involved in the church side, I’ve got my allotments.’
