Interview with Chris Jones (b.1951).
Christine Jones lived in Woburn Sands as a teenager and recalls hearing about initial plans for Milton Keynes as a teenager; she recalls her parents’ worries about its arrival. In her opinion, the development has been done so well that the countryside has not been spoilt, but she recalls seeing some of the early MK estates, which she thought ‘ugly’.
Christine moved to France and then America until 1999, and talks of her various jobs during this period. She briefly lived in MK in 1979/81, working as a home help, and remembers the existence of problems of isolation and lack of health services at that time. She returned to MK permanently in 2001 and is now ‘very impressed’ with the way MK has developed into a real city and, particularly likes all the parks: ‘I certainly find Milton Keynes a lovely place to live and I wouldn’t change it for the world, I really wouldn’t.’ She talks of her neighbourhood of Spencer St New Bradwell, the Theatre, music venues and the fact that MK is becoming more multiracial.
