Interview with Beryl Wallace (b.1920)
Beryl Wallace talks about her childhood in London and her move to Metherfield, Milton Keynes in 1977 where she was offered a rented house after being made redundant. After a bad fall , she was unable to work so began various voluntary work in MK, for example driving for Meals on Wheels.
She talks of shopping in Bletchley initially, the market and early experience of the new hospital. She talks about her life in Netherfield: the Community Workers, the Neighbourhood Watch scheme and domestic help. She recalls the club at the meeting place. She says: ‘I’m happy in MK. I don’t know why people are so against it! For me, it’s the best place to live now.’
