Gwen Scott She/her & Oliver Hawkins He/they
Gwen Scott is a transgender woman who was born in Milton Keynes in 2000. Oliver Hawkins is a transgender male who was born in Luton in 2006. In this joint interview they share their personal journeys as transgender individuals living in Milton Keynes. They reflect on their experiences of coming out, attending Pride events and discovering support through Q:alliance’s trans and non-binary safe spaces, which they credit with helping them find community and overcome isolation. Both recount the challenges of being openly trans in school, public spaces, and navigating healthcare—particularly the inaccessibility of NHS hormone treatments, which led them to seek private or DIY alternatives. They emphasise the importance of safe, inclusive spaces and activism, recalling the empowerment they felt participating in a recent protest echoing Section 28 resistance. As a couple, Gwen and Oliver describe both the love and understanding they share and the public scrutiny they endure. Despite societal challenges, they express gratitude for the sense of belonging, safety, and connection found within the local LGBTQ+ community.
