Justin Tunley
Justin Tunley has lived in MK since he was 10 and in 1995 he was approached to design a piece of art to celebrate the 10th anniversary of MK Housing Association and their rebrand as Midsummer Housing. The brief was to use something related to the Midsummer Housing logo of a sundial and so Justin created the laser-cut steel Armillary Sphere, now set into the Labyrinth area in Campbell Park. He feels that Campbell Park has always been a big part of his life.
Justin trained originally at Teesside Poly and the Royal College of Art as an industrial designer. He talks about his work and how it incorporates architecture and landscape design, working in public spaces. He talks about the process of commissioning the Sphere and the personalities involved at the MK Development Corporation (Derek Walker, Neil Higson, Fred Roche), the original plans for Campbell Park as a sculpture park and the proposed City Club. He talks about the end of the Development Corporation and what happened afterwards.
He particularly admires the planting in Campbell Park and across the whole city.
