Adrian Moss
Adrian Moss was born in 1963 in Lancashire. He moved to Milton Keynes in 1984 when he got a job at Hanslope Park. He wanted to live somewhere close enough to work to cycle, so his first home was a rented bedroom in Plowman Close, Greenleys. After four months he bought a motorbike. In July 1986 he bought a first floor flat in Pinders Croft for £21,000. He enjoyed Greenleys with its different design, green spaces and orderliness.
He knew about the area from canal holidays but knew little about Milton Keynes itself. He found it spacious and liked the grid road system. He learned about the constituent towns and villages and the redways. He enjoyed exploring by bike.
He married in 1995. He worked at Hanslope Park for 15 years. In 1999 he moved to a different government department in London. He and his wife moved to Buckingham Street, Wolverton so he had a shorter walk to the station. They haven’t moved since and don’t plan to. He retired in February 2024. He was Mayor of Wolverton for four years: through lockdown, the Queen’s Jubilee (13 events in four days), her funeral and the King’s coronation. As Mayor he tried to get people more involved. He’s still a town councillor.
When he moved to Milton Keynes his main entertainment was an evening chatting at the local pub, The Galleon, with his landlord and friends. He and his wife still visit the pub once a week and chat with strangers and friends. They walk their dog on Parks Trust land.
His special memory is getting married in Bletchley Registry Office in 1995. Others include promotion at work and his first motor vehicle.
The biggest changes he’s seen are the amount of construction and the amount of traffic. He likes that people are so friendly and the transport links. He can’t think of anything missing. Wolverton is his favourite part of the city and the shopping centre is different to any other he’s seen. He would like the station to be closer to the shopping centre. For the future, he sees Milton Keynes getting bigger and being more of a hub with the East-West railway and new dual carriageways.
He would like the Museum exhibition to tell the story of designing the city.
