Now in its second year this two day exhibition took place on Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd January 2008 in Middleton Hall, at thecentre:mk. Sponsored by English Partnerships, thecentre:mk, Milton Keynes Citizen and Routeco and managed by Living Archive, the exhibition highlighted the many great achievements by people connected to this area. From royal physicians and famous codebreakers to business leaders and sports stars - Milton Keynes showed it has a rich, cultural and historical past.
The exhibition brought to life some of the areas most famous Pioneers and Heroes with a range of displays showing how their lives unfolded and how what they achieved has affected us all and left an undeniable legacy.
Displays included a replica wartime codebreakers’ hut provided by Bletchley Park, lace-makers from the Cooper and Newton Museum, architectural models from City Discovery Centre, period re-enactors from Grafton Regis and Milton Keynes Museum, MK Western Front Association provided a display of First World War memorabilia and stories of people from this area who went to fight on the Western Front. Living Archive displayed the history of Central Milton Keynes.
The exhibition also announced the winner of the Greatest Milton Keynes Pioneer or Hero. Won by Alan Turing (1912 - 1954) the famous wartime codebreaker who was based at Bletchley Park. The Mayor presented the award to Simon Greenish - Director of Bletchley Park.
