The Jackfruit [Kathal] is the national fruit of Bangladesh. It is the shape of a large melon with a green-yellow skin, with small spiky knobs. The flesh is custard yellow with a banana-like flavour. Fruits may sometimes emit a foul smelling odour emanating from the skin. These, when roasted, taste like chestnuts. The jackfruit can grow to huge sizes sometimes weighing over 55kg.
