There was a fellow from Stony Stratford … a professional footballer… I collected a football as my Christmas present from Swain’s in Church Street, which was the sports outfitters and with my mother got on the bus to go down from Wolverton to New Bradwell to see her mother, my granny. It must have been Christmas Eve and on the bus was this chap George Henson… the professional footballer and he signed… he actually signed my brand new football! Jack Ansell… I played with him at Headington. He played for NorthamptonTown but Jack became quite famous. He played in the FA Cup at Highbury and kept the score down to about 3-1, in the Second or Third Round of the FA Cup. Tony Clarke

I’d love to find that football signed by George Henson! He was my great grandfather and now my daughter plays for Stony Stratford!
Would be good to know what happened to that signed George Henson football?
Barry Lines is in the photo – seated second from right. Date on the ball is 1952 (not 1955, as stated) which looks about right. I fancy the boys are about 10 or 11 and Barry Lines was born in 1942.
Surely mention must be made of Barry Lines. Played for the Cobblers under Dave Bowen when they went from Division4 up to the old 1st. Division and back down to division 4 in the space of 8 Seasons. I think I am right in saying that Barry also represented England at under 21 level.
My dad has the ball between his feet in the Bletchley Road School photo, he want on to play for Watford, and if you come accross the photo of the LMS winning football his dad was in that team.
