The titles on the front of this film of a Wheelbarrow Race in Newport Pagnell in the 1954say it is‘A PAG Production’. These initials refer to the surnames of the organisers – Capt. Les Payne, Peter Adams and Ron Groom. They organised a week of activities in 1953 after the Coronation thatincluded a Pram Race, a Wee Willie Winkie Races and some spectacular River Revels in aid of the elderly people of the town.

A year later in 1954 PAG productions were busy again, organising a Darby and Joan Wheelbarrer Race on Easter Saturday. The race was won by Harry Summerlin, partnered by Eric Miller. (For full details see Newport Pagnell in the 1950s by Gerald Stratton)

  • I vaguely remember seeing a comedy raft race on the river at Newport sometime in the ’50s. I reckon it might have been the same people who organised / took part in this.
