Interview about use of Bletchley station and the railway from the 1960s.
Sylvia recalls her hazy first impressions of Bletchley Station when they arrived from Watford in the dark: a ‘country town rail station.’ When living in Bletchley they used trains a great deal, her husband commuted to Watford, shopping in Oxford and Bedford, and visiting relatives in Sussex. She recalls the special cheap tickets to London on Thursday nights when Milton Keynes began to be developed. Recalling changes to the station buildings, she comments: ‘It’s got bigger- they’ve altered the front of the station’. In her opinion, it used to feel more friendly, with porters to talk to and the refreshment bar: ‘Now it’s bare in comparison.’
