Interview with Stephen Patrick (b.1947).
Stephen Patrick came to Milton Keynes in the mid-1970s to work as a Quantity Surveyor for Milton Keynes Development Corporation. He and his wife moved to MKDC housing in Greenleys, where they stayed for 4 or 5 years. He comments on the lack of facilities in the early days. He talks of MKDC projects in which he was involved, such as Hodge Lea phase 2, Stacey Bushes, and the Pennyland passive use of solar energy scheme; he found the teamwork methods at MKDC a good experience. Later he was part of the Special Projects Group, which developed the Central Business Exchange.
He left MKDC in 1986 and now works for the Metropolitan Police; he finds that the same sort of working atmosphere exists there… ‘the sort of projects you’re involved in is as diverse now as it was then … working with people who have got some sense of dedication to what they are doing.’ In his opinion, MK is a success: ‘working in Milton Keynes was brilliant, … working with the people, working on the projects.’ And he now finds MK is a quiet place to come home to.
