Interview with Peter and Gillian Collis.
Peter and Gillian Collis moved to Milton Keynes from Wembley in 1981, initially to a council house on Pennyland. He continued to run his customer service business in furniture and bedding locally, she commuted to London, working for Brent Council. They talk of their move to Blakelands in 1984, where they settled in quickly and got involved in the community, helping with Meals on Wheels and the library service. Mr Collis taught evening classes in upholstery at Stantonbury Campus, and sings in a barbershop chorus. They enjoy Scottish dancing and travel around the country in their caravan to many events.
They talk of the excellent local facilities for children – ‘there’s so much to do here’, clubs, sport, lakes, etc. Noting that there are problems such as graffiti and some dangerous redways, overall they are very pleased with how MK has developed; they think the Theatre is ‘absolutely gorgeous’ and there are so many eating places in CMK now. They would not go back to London.
