Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, Beryl and Frank dated 3rd May 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents, Beryl and Frank dated 3rd May 1945. Hubert writes to his family on Whit Sunday and wonders what the weather is like at home. He says he has read the newspapers sent to him and was interested to red about the Rhine crossings which he thinks was a perfectly planned affair. He writes that he has heard that VE day celebrations went well at home and that “everybody seemed to get blotto” as the pubs were open till 12pm. He reports that he went to see a film at Secunderabad which had to be abandoned before the end because “the rain came down in torrents”. That night he would be seeing the end of that film and another one. He notes that the films advertised in the local paper at home don’t seem up to much. Hubert reports that there are no ill effects from his vaccination . He expects goods will be soon be in the shops again at home although he predicts rationing will continue for some time. He notes that Holland was liberated just in time because “the poor people were starving”. Hubert notes that the monsoon season in India will soon be breaking. He wishes his family well and hopes Bernice has got over her teething troubles.
