Letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents 3 March 1945
Photocopy of a letter from Hubert Taylor to his parents dated 3 March 1945. Hubert begins by saying he is glad his mothers health is improving and asks how his father is keeping. He suggests that they go out more now the weather is improving and visit the bowling green, suggesting to his father that a ladies section should be formed so his parents can play each other. He notes his daughters health has improved. Hubert says there is no immediate need for another parcel from home as he has “enough stuff to last me”, saying, apparently in response to a question from his parents, that he can get plenty of bananas and oranges. He notes that oranges and lemons are once again available at home and says that it will be nice when they can once again get all the things they like, although he predicts that rationing will no doubt continue after the war. He mentions playing in a cricket match and seeing another film his parents would enjoy. He mentions a friend, Ray, who is fit again but will send a photo of himself next to a palm tree. He will mark himself with a dot though “as he is so thin”. Hubert comments on the successes on the western front in Europe. He tells his mother there is no need to send books as plenty of reading material is available. He signs off as he must get ready for duty and wishes his parents well.
