Opening of The Hub by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
The official opening of The Hub by Queen Elizabeth II in her 40th anniversary year. General views of The Hub, the crowd and entertainment are shown including high angle shots. There are also shots of the Queen and Prince Phillip meeting people in the crowd and unveiling the plaque. The opening is filmed twice.
The film starts with a view of Jurys Inn at the Hub in Central Milton Keynes. After 42 seconds the film cuts and resumes with a view of the square inside the Hub. It shows various shots of Cafe Rouge, Jurys Inn, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Zizzi.
Shots are shown of the crowd behind a red barrier. A Jamaican band are playing and singing in the square before Indian dancers and musicians take to the square.
00:04:38 the royal car appears and civic dignitary’s escort HM the Queen around the Hub as the band plays.
00:08:42 The Queen and Prince Philip approach the plaque to be unveiled, opening the Hub officially, a cheer goes up from the crowd as she does so. The plaque is circular and grey and says “ON THE OCCASION OF THE VISIT OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II AND HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE PHILIP TO MILTON KEYNES DURING THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR THE QUEEN OPENED THE HUB:MK 29TH NOVEMBER 2007”.
00:10:34 The film cuts and we see the Jamaican band, and general views of the square and the crowd.
00:11:50 The band changes to Indian again as people with Union Flags line up and military representatives are seen on the arrival of the Royal car and civic dignitary’s greet The Queen and Prince Philip. We see more shots of the crowd and the Queen and Prince meeting them.
00:19:00 The Queen and Prince Philip approach the plaque and open the Hub officially (from a different camera angle). We see people posing in front of the plaque to have their photograph taken and close ups of the plaque.
00:22:09 More music and singing from the Jamaican band in the square and general views of The Hub.
00:23:33 The scene changes to a view of Central Milton Keynes from a high angle view. Views of the church, X-scape and Winter Gardens are shown.
