Opening of The Hub by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
The film starts with shots of the crowd in the square and nearby buildings, many have union flags. A sea cadet and air cadet are also visible in several shots.
00:01:28 the cars arrive, the royal car is first and Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth get out. They are met by two unknown women and the mayor before going inside. There are more scenes of the public as an announcement is made [indistinct]. The Queen leaves the building and we see Prince Philip and the Queen talking to people in the crowd and looking at a light sculpture. Music plays in the background. They proceed to the plaque area which has a raised platform and red backcloth.
00:07:24 an unknown man makes a brief [indistinct] speech and the Queen unveils the plaque. It is circular and grey and says ‘ON THE OCCASION OF THE VISIT OF HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II AND HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS PRINCE PHILIP TO MILTON KEYNES DURING THE 40TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR THE QUEEN OPENED THE HUB:MK 29TH NOVEMBER 2007’. The Queen and her party leave and we see shots of the crowd. Prince Philip stops to talk to performers. There are then shots of the area and four people posing in front of the plaque. We see a close up of African singers on the centre performance area. The camera shows the plaque and various parts of the Hub.
There is a cut in the film
00:11:50 film resumes with a high angle view of Central Milton Keynes including the Church of the Cornerstone, X-scape and the Civic Offices taken from the central business exchange building. It cuts back to the hub and we see children stood on the platform with the plaque before it zooms back to show the plaza. It then goes back to the panoramic view of the city. The film ends with a view down into the hub, now with just a few people present.
