A film about the Silbury Groups second International Arts Symposium at Westbury Arts Centre. It includes the launch event at the Open University and of classes in progress.
The film starts with scenes of the launch event at the Open University. It shows people having refreshments and mingling. The Mayor is present.
00:06:07 there are speeches by Jessica Rost, the symposium co-ordinator; Alan Pugh, the Mayor and Matthew Collins an Art Critic. In her speech Jessica Rost introduces all the artists and thanks the funders. The artists are Sav Lanet, Fabian Moltar, Aven Davis, Liu Gowi, Valery Dewson, Anthony Hayes, Elizabeth Colcome, Angelis Ovcarcants (?), Calunca(?), Helen Taylor.
00:16:00 the scene changes to outside in the car-park. The camera focuses on a blue bus, the words “Renewable Energy. You Can Make It!” are painted in white on the side and it has solar panels on the roof. The camera then sweeps through the car-park picking out unusual vehicles. People are seen entering the car-park and they chat as they watch the artists driven off in convoy to the studios.
00:21:13 the vehicles have all arrived at the studios. We then see various shots of the event including a man playing acoustic guitar; a fire pit and people talking in various rooms
00:25:58 a small group are playing folk music, the camera picks people out in the audience talking and listening. The artist Liu Gowi is shown drawing the scene.
00:35:25 the scene changes to outside where sausages and burgers are being cooked on the fire pit, people then help themselves. A small girl is seen playing with a dog, other people are seen eating and drinking in the garden.
00:43:35 the camera returns inside to film the guests drinking and listening to the folk band. This is followed by a girl playing the guitar and singing in Latvian(?).
The rest of the film was taken later during the symposium of the activities and the artists working.
01:00:00 – This scene is of a group of adults and children carving lino tiles round a table and printing them using a large ink press, this session was led by Valerie Gleeson.
01:05:02 – The scene changes to a demonstration by Liu Gowi of Chinese brush painting to some students. His translator describes what he is doing.
01:13:05 – This scene shows another group of students painting outside in the garden.
01:18:54 – We return to the art from the lino printing drying inside and then to the Chinese brush painting class to watch one of the students painting, the finished paintings are then shown.
01:25:19 – This scene is of the computer art area showing students using digital art, and how to manipulate photos using software.
01:29:20 – This scene is of children outside drawing a tree; they are encouraged to draw several nature scenes.
01:38:31 – The scene changes once again to inside the studio gallery showing some of the artists’ work, then outside to show some art in the garden. The camera returns to show the indoor gallery again and people helping themselves to the buffet. The film ends at 01:47:37.
