Copy of a letter from Albert French to his sister May in December 1915
Albert tells May that he is sorry he has not written a Christmas letter but he has been so busy in the trenches. He did manage to scribble a letter on Christmas Eve but it wasn’t a proper Christmas letter. He has not received a Christmas letter yet but knows it is because they are busy and he expects it will come soon. He hopes they had a good Christmas. His was decent but it was nothing like being at home. He tells May not to be anxious if she does not get a letter from him because he will be busy with trench digging, night marches or something of that sort. He says to expect him home in a fortnight for a seven day leave. He is looking forward to a good look around Wolverton and a good talk. He shall be able to tell them as much about soldiering as anyone. He has received two parcels, one from the inhabitants of Wolverton, and one from the uncle of a chap that sleeps near him. He feels he has been lucky since he joined the army. He sends his love.
