Copy of a letter from Albert French to his sister May in December 1915
Albert tells May that perhaps he will be home for Christmas and tells her to look at his letter to Aunt for details. He hopes her work is alright and tells her that with a bit of pluck and grit she will get through. He tells her about a 16 mile route march in full kit, 4 miles of which they were up to their knees in mud. The men were complaining but as soon as they had got their packs off and rested they were as happy as ever. They are now learning about shooting and bayonet fighting. The allotment money is getting sorted out. Albert asks about Wilfred Saunders, any happenings in Wolverton, ‘Barber’s Picture Palace’, has anybody else enlisted yet, and May’s friends. He says he wrote to Aunt Jane but has not had time to write to Reg or Mrs Cox yet. He then asks about Reg and Mr and Mrs Cope. He wonders if they have had another Zeppelin raid. He says he will write again soon and sends his love.
