Beanhill Celebrates 40 Years

Beanhill was built in the 70s as housing for the work force that came to put up the City Centre. Most of the houses are made of tin, they were never meant to be permanent. The people who live here now love their bungalows so much that they don’t want them to be demolished.

Beanhill Estate will be 40 years old in 2015, there are  lots of great events planned for the Birthday Celebrations so be sure to keep an eye out for this! The Tin Man, Beanhill

  • These are not temporary homes for workers.
They were prefabricated homes made from tin and alternative materials due to a brick and concrete shortage at the time.
It’s a very common myth that people tell about them being temporary homes so they can try and excuse the Tennant’s lack of maintenance.

  • Is this story about them being builders houses definitely true? Because I thought that it was to do with there being a lack of bricks due to a strike, intense govt pressure to meet targets and so other materials being selected. The houses were designed to be brick. These houses were designed by Starchitect Norman Foster too, so the idea that they were meant to be temporary accomodation just doesn’t ring true …
