Channel 40 Film Screening

Channel 40 was a unique experiment in community access
cable television that broadcast from a purpose-built studio in
Fishermead to new-build areas of Milton Keynes between 1976
and 1979. Since its closure, the remaining videotape recordings
have been stored at the Bucks County Archive in Aylesbury, but
thanks to a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund it is now
possible to convert these vulnerable recordings to an accessible
digital format. In this special video presentation, Colin Barrett – a
digital video specialist and a former staff producer at Channel
40 – will show not only some examples of the recordings that
have so far been digitised but will also offer an insight into the
technology employed in the conversion process.

There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the video
presentation.

Running time: Approx. 30 mins
